"It's not the best situation but I have seen worse" said Summer. The Summer GM then reminisced about his time with the 1992 Rockglen Spitfires in the South Saskatchewan League. "It was horrible, everyone was hurt except our catcher. I played with a broken leg at short stop and we ended up beating Moosomin 14-9. Of all my championships, that one was the most satisfying to date."
That game was also the first time Summer and Hugh went head to head in a Championship final. "I saw this young prodigy playing for Moosomin" said Summer, "he was your typical cocky farm boy that was going to make it big one day. Sure he could play, but he needed mentoring, and he asked me to take him under my wing. I reluctantly agreed, and the rest is history. Now Hugh and his glove are on the cusp of something special, and I feel good for him."
Enough about the good old days, here is the injury report leading into the playoffs:
- Pete Right Ankle (Probable)
- Hugh Left Abdomen (Probable)
- Maura Right Knee (Day to Day)
- Preston Right Knee (Day to Day)
- Jeff Right Calf (Out)
- Summer Every joint (Day to Day, it always is)

The practice earlier was rigorous with Summer putting the players through a series of conditioning drills followed by skills evaluations and finished off with Casual providing one on one tutoring of all the players in a skills "mini-camp". "He's been "observing" all year, and he knows where each player needs work" remarked the Summer GM. "We will be fine this weekend, just fine"
Friday night is the start of a new season, see you at the ball park!
Go Herd!

Great story; that was a mighty large wing Summer must have had to have Hugh under it.
I always thought Hugh was a "Rider Prider".
Rumour has it all the Herd's round robin game at at Buhler Park, close to the beer gardens
How to hit home runs: "I swing as hard as I can, and I try to swing right through the ball...The harder you grip the bat, the more you can swing it through the ball, and the farther the ball will go. I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can."
"Baseball is a simple game. If you have good players and if you keep them in the right frame of mind then the manager is a success."
How to really HIT home runs: I use a HUGE bat, I grip the HUGE bat with my HUGE hands, and then I take a HUGE swing at the ball! I don't miss the ball EVER, but on the slight chance that I only get a piece of the ball on the swing, I will usually pull a muscle (stomach)...I call this swing a TRIPLE. I tried to train the Big Bambino on this, but he'd have nothing to do with it...he went big or he didn't go at all!
As you can see, his 'Hughness' is a real team player.
Mr. August can't wait for post regular season play...he's been training all week.

Sounds like his "Hughness" is having trouble with making a big pass at the ball. I had a patient one time that had the same fragile sort of body frame and was constantly complaining about injuries as well. I advised him to retire from spongee. He did and his intitials are forever worn on the Elkhorns Team Jersey.
Hugh, I am not saying retirement for you, just be on notice that your body is starting to give out.
OK..one down...probably 6 more to go!
a nice 11-3 victory starts things off right for the Herd.
WE played Mediocre and still etched out a victory. Too bad the Blue and Gold does not have the same winning formula. Clearly the difference is management!
Good work today, and our next game is Saturday 12:45 at Buhler (west diamonds!).
3 down,,, 3 to go!
We are blessed with a full line up today.
And it seems that the Tom Petty Crew did like Richard Petty and made an early pitstop last night. Good work GM for gettign them home early!
3 down,,,2 to go.....
A squeaker,,,but all great teams win that way.......
-Summer...
well...it was all down..none to go....Herd wins AGAIN!
Blog will be updated once I get my head straight......probably on Monday.......
